Teamwork makes the dream work.
                          - John Maxwell

I will pour out my spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
    your old men shall dream dreams,
    and your young men shall see visions.
                                           - Joel 2:28

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

April showers have come and gone and now it is time for May flowers! It is a truth in life that it needs to rain on God’s great Creation in order for new life to sprout. Sometimes, in the middle of a rainstorm it can be hard to think about the new flowers that are being nourished and are planting roots under the ground. It can be especially difficult in life’s rain showers to think about the new life that is about to spring forth within us, but we are Easter people! Even when remembering the darkness of the Tomb we are called to remember that the Tomb is empty and through Jesus Christ we have been blessed with life eternal.

As the early church gathered together remembering the words of Jesus, they spent time in prayer and reading Scripture. According to Acts of the Apostles chapter 2 as the church gathered together, experiencing a rain of persecution, they were remembering the words of the Prophet Joel and God’s promise that the people would continue to dream and vision together. I am convinced that God has a dream and a vision for us at Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church, a dream and a vision that we would work together to share the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in what we say and what we do right here in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.

John Maxwell, an American Clergyman, states that “teamwork makes the dream work,” but the entirety of his message implies that when teams don’t work together, the dream can become a nightmare. If you’re like me, dreams are much better than nightmares! So, how is God calling each of us to work together to live out God’s dream and vision for us at SHUP? I believe that we are being called to spend time praying for one another, to focus on serving the lost within our community, and to fellowship with one another and offer love and support.

If we work together as a team, we will be stronger than we could ever be as individuals. Let’s come together as a team and work together to live out God’s dream!

God Bless!
